Law enforcement professionalism and outlook
Law enforcement is a very big part of our community and lifestyle for many lately. It can also be a very controversial topic depending on who you are discussing it with. For as many people there are that respect law enforcement there are people that go against it. As much as people do not like law enforcement it is still something that needs to be in our community and taken seriously, law enforcement is as dangerous as it is necessary and can be taken the wrong way by certain people and can be turned into a dangerous situation even if it doesn’t need to be. “All it takes is one police beating of a civilian and people start thinking that the entire police force is a bunch of thugs.” (The important …show more content…
“Most people in North America use smart phones that connect them immediately with information that we could not have imagined in previous decades.” (Chrismas) As you can tell it is very important for law enforcement to keep up with today’s modern technology to help protect themselves and others in the streets. They also need to be careful of their words and actions because they never know when or where they are being filmed and the video can very quickly make its way to social media. If the video is bad it may very well affect the officer’s reputation or even his career which are both very important in law enforcement. Not just technology has changed in the field but so has the amount of work you have to do for something that use to require barely any. “I realized first-hand how dramatically the job has changed. A search warrant often requires a 40 to 80-page affidavit, basically outlining an entire investigation. You have to be physically fit In order to be in the law enforcement field. If you are not fit then you will not be able to chase suspects who are running away from you especially if you cannot follow them in a car, for instance if they go in a back yard or in a small alley you would have to exit your vehicle and continue the chase on foot. If you have breathing problems or are overweight you will not be able to run as fast as the suspect resulting in the person getting away, whether it’s a suspect running for a traffic violation or a murderer you want to make sure you are able to keep up with them and catch them. To become an officer you must first “be at least 21 years old and pass competitive written exams” (how to become a police officer )”and also Be in above-average physical condition”, “Hold high ethical and moral standards” and also “Have no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted, and no pending charges” (woolley) it is also important to “Have good eyesight—these requirements vary by service”, “Be certified in First Aid and CPR” and “Be able to pass security clearance and a very in-depth back ground check” (woolley). Besides having these requirements you should also have very good personal skills to help interact with civilians and keep situations from escalating to something more dangerous or unnecessary. if
