Law Enforcement Officer Duties

Law enforcement officers have the responsibility of upholding the law, protecting the community, and keep order among society. With that being said there are many roles that law enforcement officers fulfill within their occupation. Although there are many roles an officer may fulfill, two of those roles I believe would go hand in hand is the apprehension of offenders and preserving the peace. I think that in order for a police officers to maintain peace with in a community he/she must do their job in apprehending the individuals who commit criminal behaviors. While there are many roles an officer partakes in while doing his/her job, apprehending offenders is a critical component to the success of their job. Law enforcement officers have the obligation to detain a person(s) who breaks the law, whether that be on the scene of …show more content…
A police officer must assume each role when they are called out for any criminal behavior that is reported to them. When a crime has been committed an officer is called to the scene to apprehend the subject in question. If the officer wasn’t there or let the criminal go the community would be put in a state of fear that the criminal may strike again. This would create an uproar within the community and in order to preserve the peace within an officer must apprehend the subject in question and have them pay for their crime and calm the community. People rely on officers to keep and restore the peace in society and if they don’t do their jobs the society goes into panic mode. As seen in the protesting around America the last few years. If people who commit crimes are not equally apprehended, the peace in a community is gone.
