I perceive myself as diligent, empathetic, and curious. These personal traits of mine have led to my attraction of Philosophy, and by extension, Law. Like many of my peers, I have dreamt of becoming a lawyer for most of my life. I have fixated on becoming a lawyer because to me, the Law is the most effective outlet to positively impact the world. The Law’s intent, structure, and influence (when appropriately used) is without a doubt one of the most beautiful institutions man has created. Through the power of influence, I aspire to contribute to this institution. However, over the years I have learned that in order accomplish this, one does not necessarily need a Law degree.

My drive to venture into the legal field early has allowed me to participate in two legal education programs in Texas and Florida. In the past five years I have worked at several law firms, including an immigration law firm where I wrote pardons for applicants, and assisted a former professor in helping a Salvadoran refugee get permanent asylum in the United States. Having articulated the long-term strategic objective from Chapter 4, an ensued strategy to attain it becomes the next logical step following the model originally illustrated in Figure 3.1. Our prospective student's long-term goal necessitates receiving a doctor of jurisprudence degree (J.D.) as a result of its award from any American Bar Association accredited college of law as well as the subsequent passing of the Florida Bar examination. And although the proposed strategy bases its assumptions on a current high school student, it could readily accommodate those since graduated with appropriate modifications. Key to developing a feasible strategy entails emphasizing what the principal, in this case our student, can fully control once the process begins.…

Hearing Attorney Lori Thompson speak was truly insightful because, it was interesting hear from an attorney who had a background of criminal prosecution then transitioning into Probate and Elder law. In the start of her presentation she explained to the class what made her want to be a lawyer. She outlined to the class that she dreamed of being a lawyer since seventh grade. With that simple wish to become a lawyer she developed the drive and passion she needed in order to get to where she wanted. In Attorney Lori Thompson’s Lecture I liked the fact that she was somewhat explicit on explaining to us on her experience or encounters with law school, and as a working attorney.…

While interviewing Dylan McKinnon, a second year law student at the University of Iowa, I gained knowledge about the subject field and domain of law school and how it prepares students to emerge into the law field after graduation. I found Dylan during his office hours in the Pappajohn Business Building on the third floor on Friday afternoon. His office was poorly decorated with the only item on his desk being a laptop. The room seemed much too big for the minimal space that he was using but the artlessness mimicked his simple, but insightful answers to the interview questions. The room was grey and most likely could not be changed, a rule of the business college.…
