I haven't always known it, but i've always been destined to have a career in law. I’ve been exposed to the legal world ever since I was a child with my first experience with the law was when I was four and had to go through the courts when I was adopted; aged 7 I went through the courts when my parents divorced and when I was 11 I went through the courts once more when I was involved in a car crash. Seeing how the world of law worked in the courts inspired to me to take law at A-level which I have loved. It has improved my confidence immensly with public speaking, as we often do mock trials and presentations in our class and to others. However, part of the reason I want to study law at university is that currently we only do civil and criminal …show more content…
We had numerous people talk to us about their experiences of studying law at degree level, confirming my decision to want to study law at a university as I am hardworking and often do extra independent study to go alongside with my A levels. This is why I have done a MOOC's with Future Learn. The Corporate Lawyers course was done in conjunction with a university and taught me about lawyers and the stigma around lawyers in today's society. This was relevant to me as I want to help change the stereotype of the legal world. It was also appealing to me that this course was done with a university, so the research I did for the course felt like what I would be doing in my …show more content…
I enjoyed learning about constitutional law as it’s so relevant in today’s society and was a topic I studied as part of my AS politics. After talking to my tutors about their experiences with doing law as a degree, it made me realise how suited I am to it as I enjoy reading and learning independently and have such a keen interest in the subject itself. During this trip, we visited a firm called Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer which gave me an insight into corporate law firms who deal with high-profile clients. This reaffirmed my decision to want to become a barrister, as I am more suited to being part of the action rather than working behind the scenes, I also want to help individual people rather than big

Throughout my time at university, I have had the opportunity to be a member and captain of the Skidmore Women’s Tennis Team. My time spent on the team has been a rewarding and inimitable experience, allowing me to become a leader and mentor to my teammates as well as throughout the college. To explain more comprehensively my own personal characteristics that make me an excellent candidate for Queen’s Law, I wanted to give you a glimpse into a moment that I think exemplifies the qualities that you are looking for in a law student. While interviewing Dylan McKinnon, a second year law student at the University of Iowa, I gained knowledge about the subject field and domain of law school and how it prepares students to emerge into the law field after graduation. I found Dylan during his office hours in the Pappajohn Business Building on the third floor on Friday afternoon. His office was poorly decorated with the only item on his desk being a laptop. The room seemed much too big for the minimal space that he was using but the artlessness mimicked his simple, but insightful answers to the interview questions. The room was grey and most likely could not be changed, a rule of the business college.…

This upcoming debate season I plan on making the Plaza team for the second year in a row. Other than debating and helping people, I also find criminal science and forensics fascinating. It is so cool how specialists in those areas can discover what happened to people, and bring foreclosure to events just by performing a biopsy or an autopsy. As well as the science, I believe that public speaking in general is important no matter what because if you want a voice in this world you have to let it be heard. In The Legal Studies Academy, I will be able to get better at public speaking because I will have more opportunities to speak, and I have fun learning about the sciences used in the fields to bring justice to victims and people wanting answers.…

I’ve taken an introspective inventory of what keeps me coming back to the goal of pursuing a law school education and that is the chance to provide legal advice and a perspective from which clients can make sound personal and business decisions, even when emotions seem to be the driving force in their decision making. I can speak from experience having been in those shoes. I’m comfortable shedding my entrepreneurial career and wholeheartedly committed to becoming a full-time law student. I’m certain that every life experience, challenging crossroads, shed tears, and answered prayers prepared me for this moment in…

There, I not only learned about the general courtroom procedures and expected etiquette, but I also saw how the immense amounts of preparation and hard work that lawyers and paralegals put together in the office paid off in the courtroom. I met many lawyers through these wonderful courtroom experiences and I started networking and creating connections in the field of law in Toronto. I was also able to, similarly to how I applied the knowledge that I gained from my Grade 11 law class in this CO-OP placement, apply the knowledge that I gained from cooperative education in my Grade 12 law class. Moreover, by helping me see just how my education would be used in the read world, cooperative education also revitalized my motivation to keep striving to do my best in…

Due to my love for challenges I chose my current AS-levels, choosing Maths and Chemistry enables me to challenge myself on a regular basis, as both require an element of problem solving which I believe also makes me a good candidate for this course, as I have learnt to be persistent in finding the solution. I volunteer at Oxfam weekly, through this, I am able to improve my teamwork skills; by working with a team to make sure everything is in order. Making sure the shop floor is kept tidy enhances my attention to detail, e.g. I have to notice small things which are out of place. Oxfam also led me to enquire how the law contributes to the collection of gift aid. This drove me to realise that law is intertwined with most aspects of daily life.…
