Why is Lauryn Hill the GOAT? Well, I believe it's because of her raw talent and authenticity. Her first solo album, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," is a masterpiece that blends hip-hop, soul, and R&B. Her lyrics speak to many young women because they speak of love, life, and social issues with poetry and depth that's rare. She sings and raps with such lots of emotion and skill that not many others have and doesn't sound the same to many people.

Lauryn Hill was born on May 26, 1975, in South Orange, New Jersey, the second child of 2 children. Her father, a computer consultant, and her mother, a teacher were both very musical, with her older brother also playing multiple instruments, causing her to be fascinated at a young age. Lauryn enjoyed school from a young age and many other extracurricular activities, but her mind was set on music. She would spend hours in her room listening to 60s and 70s classic soul music, absorbing all the sound. When Lauryn Hill was only 13, she was seen as a contestant on Showtime at the Apollo. With support from her family, she got to pursue her singing and acting career professionally in her teen years, with her appearing on TV and auditioning for roles in New York City.

Lauryn became the songwriter for the group, along with being a rapper, and vocalist. The Fugees would perform around New York while submitting some demos to big record companies. Meeting the Fugees would only be the start of her music career, with her going back and forth the balance her acting and singing career. At age 17, she played in about four roles in multiple shows, some of them even recurring. While acting she was still in school, she earned admission to Columbia University, and she was able to focus on both of her passions but the Fugees signed a record contract and Lauryn left the university to concentrate on her performing
