An important theme from Fever would be to appreciate the little things in life. This is significant, because people tend to overlook the smaller things. Within the story the theme is displayed multiple times. A good example of this would be Mattie. She believed all the chores her mother gave her were unnecessary. Later on in the story she looks back and realizes how much she has taken for granted. Another example of the theme would be when grandfather died. In that moment Mattie Cook realized how important memories are. Laurie Halse Anderson has Mattie think, “There could be no running from this…” ().
