It is with immense delight and enormous pleasure for me to highly recommend Sabrina Melendez for the USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720) Scholarship. Sabrina came to Sacred Heart University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program (class of 2018) after graduating with departmental honors from Skidmore College in Health and Exercise Science. Of note, she is certified as an exercise physiologist by the American College of Sports Medicine. In a study of factors that predicts success in physical therapy training, students who major in exercise science has an advantage over their peers as they typically do well in Doctor of Physical Therapy program. In the case of Ms. Vivian Bearing, a stage 4 ovarian cancer patient under the care of Dr. Kelekian and his intern medical student Jason Posner, the above statements were awfully violated as she was deprived not only from receiving optimal patient-centered care but her rights of autonomy, consent, privacy and confidentiality was also compromised. Jeanne Bishop, author of Change of Heart, finds the strength and faith inside of her to forgive the man who murdered his sister, brother-in-law, and their unborn child.
