Various literature materials have received considerable criticism for promoting different forms of stereotypes including cultural, gender, and racial discriminations. The portrayal of stereotype in journals, newspapers, and other publicity sources entails the use of words, phrases, or titles that describe, in a discriminative way, members of a given society or gender. The significance of the media in the culture arises from the fact that it operates in specific cultural and institutional contexts. In the recent past, the media has been the primary channel through which stereotypical remarks are made. In The Myth of the Latin Woman, the author presents ideologies based on real time case examples that are meant to reveal the impact of the media on cultural discrimination. I strongly agree with the assertions explained in the article as the press has been the main contributor to stereotypes in the world today.

The article highlights an example of an African American woman, Maria, who happily works as a servant for a white person and is given petite appreciation (Cofer, 203). Furthermore, it is not only the black women who are stereotyped based on their appearance and race but the popularization of the vice has made it extend to the Latina women as well. In essence, the media has made it standard for minority groups to be mistreated in the United States and other parts of the world. A clear message needs to be sent to the propagators of discrimination to make them understand the social impact of their
