In terms of time period, the story appears to be set in a modern time period, but not in the twenty-first century. From the description of the pistol and cartridge belt, it would be safe to assume that this story takes place in the mid twentieth century, or in between 1925 and 1975.
The overall whereabouts in the story is also left for the readers to decide. The name “Captain Torres” and the depiction of a hot day leaves readers with an image of either South or Central America. Lathering is the act of covering someone’s face with a foam or foam like substance. When the author adds the point of saying “nothing else” he means that the barber should not try to harm, kill or disturb the barber, even though the barber and captain are on different sides in the revolution. In all, the phrase “Lather and Nothing Else” means to do no more than he should as barber. Not to kill, just give the man a lathering.
6) On page 17, when the author says, “You are an executioner, I am only a barber. Each one to his job.” The barber is thinking that he should distract himself his thoughts of killing Captain Torres. He is reminding himself that he is not the executioner, and that he is the barber, and that his job is not to kill. When he says, “Each one to his job” he means that as a barber, he should not try to do more than his job was meant for.
7) Throughout the story, a strong and well-rounded character is developed in the barber, not in terms of appearance, but in his character traits and
