The Barber from the short story “Lather and Nothing else” by Hernando Tellez reveals the theme people do not always speak what is on their mind by considering to murder Captain Torres, hiding his fear of Captain Torres and assuming Captain Torres is unaware he is a revolutionary. To begin with, the Barber considers murdering Captain Torres. For instance, the Barber says “But I don’t want to be a murderer” (Torres 4). When the Barber says this (to himself) he is struggling to decide whether he should kill Captain Torres or not, even though the Barber works an average job, he supports the revolutionaries and Captain Torres is against them, so he is stuck to decide (by himself) whether he should help the revolutionaries he supports or do his job;
