The thesis in the novel lather and nothing else is that before making a decision think what the consequences are going to be. In the story the barber had to make a decision between killing captain Torris (his enemy) or letting him go. While making this decision, he thought of the consequences if whether or not people would hate him or not. The story starts off when a man named captain torres enters the barbers shop. The barber feels uneasy when he first sees the captain. The barber is nervous because the captain is a person who kills rebels that are part of the revolution and the barber is secretly a part of the revolution. While shaving the captain's beard, the barber comes up with 2 choices. Either he kills Torres and becomes a murder or
