Later Time In Middle School

Decent Essays
Students with normal school days already have a hard time staying awake in class let alone adding another hour to the day. Some schools now have one more hour than others but it doesn't make it a good thing. Schools should not be lengthened by one hour because it would be harder on the students to get up in the morning, students that play sports would have a harder time getting to practice, and students would have less time after school to do things they like. One disadvantage of schools adding another hour is that students would have a harder time with waking up early. Most students in middle school get up at around 7:00 to get ready for school if they were to add another hour into the end of the day students would get home at a later time

I don’t think teenagers need that extra 45 minutes to help them with any of their academic or social choices because the later they start school the more possibilities they might not go. Also with the later class, teens get out of school later and gives them less time to socialize with friends or family or even having physical activities because their day ends a lot faster. With this new time start, many different organizations will be affected. It may affect families because they have less time with their teen kids.…

A Later Start Time “Sleep is a simple yet powerful potion with the ability to enhance learning, boost creativity, fight infection, fuel growth, and balance mood.” says Dr. Helene A. Emsellem, the author of Snooze...or Lose! Middle schools should change their start times to later in the day because more sleep means better academic performance, less sleep deprivation, and would positively affect athletic performance. People argue that a later start time will affect extracurricular sports, and that the bus schedules will conflict with the start times. An argument that there is still plenty of time after before the sun goes down in the fall and the winter to practice, and more sleep improves athletic performance. Schools should change their start time to later in the day because more sleep means better academic performance.…

Many students feel that they are simply too tired to focus on their daily coursework. This is due to their lack of sleep. Early school start times prevent students from getting the 8-11 hours of sleep children and teenagers really need. Some people argue that school should not start later, but I strongly believe that the school 's start time should be pushed back towards 9 a.m. This additional hour will allow students to have a good night 's rest which will increase their probabilities of academic and social success as well as increased health.…

What would you rather have, a later or earlier start for school? Many students would like to have a later start time for school but if you think about it you would need to make up the time you slept in. Also, part of the reason why students don't get enough sleep is because they are up late studying. You can't expect students to come home from school, study, eat dinner, do their homework and then go to bed right away. Teenagers need to watch TV, talk to their friends, and run errands after school. We aren't machines; we need fun in our lives. With an extra hour of sleep, we will be refreshed and ready to learn for our first couple of classes.…

There are countless changes that could be made to the school; however, one change that students could come to agree on is a later start in the day. Adolescents’ body functions change and require more sleep; a large percentage of schools force students to wake up far too early than their natural body clocks would allow. This has been proven to be a smart move being that everyone will gain the same amount of education, just at a more beneficial time. Allowing the student’s to get the correct amount of sleep could change not only their health, but also their attitudes. When people have a better…

Let Me Sleep Even though changing the starting time of schools to later in the day could cost more money, the benefits of starting school later significantly outweigh the financial cost because it would improve public safety and academic performance, allow teens to acquire an adequate amount of sleep, and benefit teens’ health tremendously. Public safety and academic performance are two things that would drastically improve if schools would delay the start times. In the 1930s, Nathaniel Kleitman, a very important person in sleep medicine, uncovered a daily routine speed and accuracy of intellectual activity. Even in people that got an adequate amount of sleep, their performance still showed a decrease at early times in the morning (“Sleep,…

Just hear me out here. If the school day was increased by an hour and a half, the students would be able to begin school at 7:30 a.m. and finish at around 3:00 p.m. allowing for an extra 90 minutes designated to completing each classes’ work instead of having it assigned as homework. The benefit of this is that now, students will have more time to work on their assignments in class instead of needing to take them home and labor over them for hours afterward. If the work can not be completed in class, then the teacher will have to either cut down the load, or not assign it period. Although some argue that homework is supposed to prep you for when you are going to have a job, by teaching you time management skills, that is not the case.…
