Latent Mark

When a finger comes into contact with a porous or non-porous surface, it deposits the dirt or oils present, remaining as a mark (Fingerprint Source Book, 2013). A latent mark is unique to the individual and is an affirmative source of identifying a potential suspect or witness. They also are invisible to the naked eye. Identifying a latent mark at varied crime scenes can be done using different developmental techniques such as wet powder suspensions (Dhall and Kapoor, 2016). These potential marks are then lifted and sent on for further analysis.
The analysis process of a fingermark includes observing details present and certain defining characteristics. These set characteristics determine the pattern type. There are three main types which
