The elderly can still possess the social skills they had when they were younger and function and influence the way that they did before age affected their brains. Contrary to this fact, adults are more susceptible to illness and are more likely to become chronically ill because of their age and weakening ability to find infections and viruses. Adults in late adulthood life stage also experience a drastic change in their senses. Many adults have impaired vision, hearing, and sensitivity in touch and pain. The elderly are also more prone to accidents as they are the sixth leading cause of death for people over sixty five. People in late adulthood also experience many psychological changes during aging. First, the brain begins to shrink and slow causing a varying degree of deterioration to structures of the brain such as the frontal lobe, neurons, and the hippocampus. This causes a negative effect on memory, reason, and senses. Despite this, the brain is very adaptive with a remarkable capability to repair.
