The Larvacean is a sea creature that puts out layers of mucus that helps to filter foods for the animal. Something you wouldn’t expect from the Larvacean is that it is more closely related to humans than Jelly fish are. In the article, bioengineer Kakani Katija of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in Moss Landing, California is performing an experiment to see how fast the flow rates of things in and out of Larvaceans mucus layers are. The scientists concluded that the Larvacean has the fastest filtering mucus of all sea creatures. Larvaceans also benefit the environment by changing out the mucus layers they have. When one layer is done they will replace it, and the old one will go to the sea floor. This will help the Carbon cycle
