Larry Young: The American Dream

Larry Young is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG). As you would expect, this did not happen overnight. Larry has had a long, exciting and successful career in the beverage business. That being said let’s start at the beginning. Larry was born and raised on a farm in Springfield, Texas. As a kid he wanted nothing more than to get off the farm and escape; however that is exactly where he ended back up as a successful adult. Larry did not have any formal education rather; he has always believed in working hard and had a strong desire to be the best. “I can remember my dad telling me, ‘If you’re a street cleaner, be the best street cleaner out there,’’’ Young said.

Per Meriam-Webster Dictionary, The American Dream is a noun meaning; an American social ideal that stresses egalitarianism and especially material prosperity; also: the prosperity or life that is the realization of this ideal. Larry believes that when all things come together, that is the American Dream. While in pursuit of the American Dream, Larry learned four important things.

He has played a central role in helping create a new business model for this fully integrated beverage company. This company has integrated brand ownership and marketing with bottling and distribution operations. DPSG is able to build their leading brands with a reliable, sustainable and secure route to market. Larry’s vision, in conjunction with Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, is to be the Best Beverage Business in the Americas. He believes that you should work smarter not harder.
