Teenagers trust their doctors. They do not expect them to violate them or harm them in any way. Doctors are supposed to be a safe place and are supposed to help and heal. Larry Nassar is not one of those doctors. He raped and sexually assaulted over 156 women, most of them as teenagers and children. Many of the family members and friends of the victims ask themselves, “Why did I not notice?” So how can friends and coworkers of people like Larry tell someone these crimes are happening and how can the United States as a whole prevent this from happening again?

Every student has to go through sex education in schools as a way to inform student on safety and STD prevention. This is amazing but the key to safe sex is consent which is not taught in a majority of schools. According to a survey sent out by Planned Parenthood, “Less than a third of people were taught anything at all related to consent, sexual assault, or healthy relationships in middle or high school.” This lack of education is what is causing young people to be unprepared when the time comes to say no or ask for consent. They are not begin taught that no means no in all circumstances. Among the small number of people who had been educated about consent, according to Planned Parenthood, less than twenty percent of them were taught how to ask for consent. Girls and boys are not being taught how to say no to men like Larry Nassar. This puts pedophiles at an advantage, as their victims do not what to do in a situation where this has happened to them. The first step victims of these heinous crimes need to take is reporting the crime to the police. Nearly seventy percent of victims do not report this to the police due to fear or embarrassment (Realities of Sexual Assault on Campus). When these crimes go unreported, nothing will happen and these criminals can prey on a new

I’m incredibly glad that Nassar has been stopped and that he will not be harming anymore innocent people. I’m outraged that she felt that she had to keep this to herself for 8 years. I agree with her that this is happening everywhere. I truly think that we need a way to stop it and not let people hurt others in the ways that they do. I know it can be hard to let people see that you can be vulnerable even if it means that justice is more likely to be served.…

Can you imagine walking down the street and passing a sex offender? Odds are you have passed something like three in the last month. Now imagine passing a victim. It is likely that you have seen more than can even be calculated, primarily due to the fact that most victims do not report their attack. While these numbers are not prudent to my argument, I would like the idea of perpetrators and victims to ruminate in your head for a bit.…

And every 8 minutes that victim is a child”(RAINN2018). With knowing this information society should try to do something to help these victims because the 265 women that were sexually assaulted by Nassar are not the only ones out there. They have finally had some kind of peace with the fact that there predator was put away for the rest of his life. Other young women don’t have the peace to cope with the fact that this could happen again with the same person. This should make the community more aware of what is happening because this shouldn’t be happening.…

    Sex Abuse Case Summary

There was more than enough evidence to bring truth to all the victim's claims and Nassar knew of his wrongdoings but continued to abuse girl after girl. Nassar pleaded guilty in this case but mentioned how he was manipulated into this and that the girls were actually lying ("Larry Nassar Sentenced to up to 175 Years in Prison 2"). If I was the judge in this case, I would've made Nassar apologize to each victim he affected and tell them he takes full responsibility instead of cowardly hiding his face in court and looking the victims' in their eyes as they spoke. Overall, this case has showed me how society is finally recognizing that women around the world are suffering and need support after they go through hardships, such as the victims of Nassar, and not be ignored any…

Each year, U.S. teens experience as many as 850,000 pregnancies, and youth under age 25 experience about 9.1 million sexually transmitted infections. The sexual education in schools cannot claim innocence because if the education for this topic was better, teenagers would not have gotten these diseases. “Controversy arises when abstinence is provided to adolescents as a sole choice and where health information on other choices is restricted or misrepresented” (Santelli 1). Many young children misinterpret abstinence-only programs and this is why young girls may end up in abortion…

Many experts in the healthcare field have stated numerous times that sexual education is extremely crucial in the school systems. Sexual education in schools needs to be addressed because it could deter HIV/AIDS; it will decrease teen pregnancy, and it can also help young people make wise decisions. Without the input of sexual curriculum the world would slowly deteriorate with one preventable incident at a time. Imagine hearing the words, “Mom, the doctor said I am positive for HIV/AIDS” leave your child’s mouth.…

Sexual Education has been encouraged to be a part of public school education since the late 1800’s. It is a program that is supposed to help young adolescents understand their body, promote abstinence, types of contraception, the risks of engaging in sexual activities, and how to prevent diseases or pregnancy. However, many parents fight this program because of their beliefs that teens should stay abstinent till marriage, and learning about sex will increase their urge to have sex. Depending on what the state requires to be taught and what a school district wants, a student will either receive one of the two styles of sexual education. The two styles are comprehensive and abstinence only.…
