Larry Liberates The Frogs Case Study

Larry Harbinger is a sophomore student at Floodrock High School. He is facing a possible five-day out-of-school suspension for theft of school property. Larry cares for animals deeply. In his biology class, they were about to dissect live frogs. Even though Larry’s mother wrote a note to excuse her son from doing this dissection, the teacher insisted that everyone observes the dissection. By observing the dissection, they will be able to get a clear idea of the anatomy. To protect the frogs, he stole and released them into the pond at the local forest preserve. Stealing the frogs ruined the experiment for the whole class. The teacher also has to find a new lab. The principal, Dr. Denton, gave Larry a five-day out-of-school suspension because of his actions. This would affect Larry greatly. Five days is way to harsh. Larry should not serve a five-day …show more content…
Larry is a huge animal lover. During the summer and after school, he would volunteer to help at the Fairhaven Anti-Cruelty Society. He also participated in protests and rallies to stop the manufacturing and sale of clothing made from animal furs. Others argued that it shouldn’t matter if he had good intentions, he still stole the frogs, which would go on to impact the students and the teacher. Most of the punishment should depend on what is driving the person to do that action. I disagree with the punishment because what if someone stole the frogs for a school prank? I do not think the student would be given the same punishment as Larry. Larry’s history showed that he had good intentions of releasing the frogs. He was just trying to save the live frogs from being killed and used as experiments. He would participate in numerous activities that promote the safety for other animals.
