At the wreak centre Larry Lassalle spoke to the children as a mentor “you are all stars” this show us that Larry Lassalle wants to motivate the children. Cormier uses the phrase “ most of all” , “most of all I want to be with the wreak centre gang” Cormier gives us clues as the reader that there is something suspicious about Larry Lassalle’s character and this makes us wonder why would a grown man want to spend his time with children. When the Japanese attack pearl harbour Larry Lassalle gives a short speech and when he finished his speech he raises his hands to stop the children from clapping and says “none of that kids I’m just doing what millions of others are doing” by saying this Cormier presents him as a humble person hero like. This is similar to Superman who usually says “no need to thank me I’m just doing my job. The final confrontation between Francis and Larry, Larry says “does that one sin of mine wipe away all the good I have done”. Cormier leaves it to the reader to decide ,but I believe it’s a yes. Larry Lassalle does a lot of things that help build his hero like reputation. Larry Lassalle build up a reputation for being a child lover and a person who brings the best out in children.
