Larry Broughton's Five Strategies

Retail store or not, I am sure that “a good plan violently executed today is better than a perfect plan next week” (Patton) is something that most businesses live by when talking about operations. I also think that this is something everyone should think about whether it is in their personal life or work life as it fits into both. I say personal life because if one has a plan to do something or get something done would they really wait for their plan to be perfect and put it off until later? The answer is usually that most people would not put it off because we do not know what interruptions tomorrow may bring. With that being said I will get back to discussing my opinion of this quote pertaining to the business world.

These strategies are: 1. Remove negative chatter from your life and mind, 2. Focus on your strengths, 3. Take rapid action, because action is power, 4. Expect and embrace failure, and 5. Never give up. (Yoogozi). In my opinion every one of these strategies are true as I will explain my reasoning. The first step of removing negative chatter from one’s life and mind will help a person or business become successful as they will be focusing on the positive. This way one can accomplish more in their day with a positive attitude rather than a negative one. Second for a business to be successful leaders and employees have to focus on their strengths. Knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses will let them focus on their strengths in order to succeed in the workplace. Which having successful leaders and employees, it will then strengthen the company as a whole. Larry says to take rapid action and in my opinion this is because if one does not take rapid action this will usually delay projects being completed in a timely fashion or even over looked. He says expect and embrace failure as everyone makes mistakes at some point in their life. We should learn from our mistakes so we know what not to do in the future. Therefore, acknowledging our mistakes and wisely correcting them will allow us to learn valuable lessons along with what to do and what not to do in order to create success. Sir Winston Churchill was quoted saying, “ Success is the ability to move from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.” (Yoogozi). Churchill is basically saying that no matter what have the strength to move on from your mistakes and never give up. These steps are not only pertaining to life, but also pertaining to the assignment quote from Pattan because these are steps to strongly consider in every plan that is made in the business

“We’ve never lost an American in space and we’re sure as hell not gonna lose one on my watch! In order to be an exemplary leader the authors, Kouzes and Posner, (2012), describe five practices that need to be implemented. Each practice defines leadership and what a leader should strive to perfect in being successful. To model the way shares the same concept of practicing what you preach, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). If you want your subordinates to have a strong work ethic a leader must practice the same, by setting the example in order for others to follow, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). Marzano’s Classroom Strategies are nine strategies that Robert Marzano created and recommends the use of these strategies for high student achievement. Of those nine strategies I chose two of these strategies that I enjoy and have seen be successful in the classroom, which are identifying similarities and differences and homework and practice. I chose to discuss this topic because of the success I have seen as a result of these strategies in the classroom. Identifying similarities and differences is when the students compare and contrast the topic they are covering. Different ways this strategy can be used is through a Venn diagram, cause and effect graphic organizer, analogies, t-charts, and Frayer model.…

Everyone has a different perspective and interpretation about failure. Some people see failure as an unpleasant thing or a limitation of their capabilities, while others see failure as a learning opportunity or a guide on how to become better. For example, in the article, “Want to Get Into College? Learn to Fail,” the author, Angel B. Perez, implies that failure should not be feared because it is not as harmful as most people think it is. He points out that failure is necessary if we want to succeed in college and in life.…

What does it mean to succeed in life? To succeed is to look backward, forward, and inward without regret. Success is a dynamic state, which consists of an individual constantly taking agency over his or her life. It is accepting one’s circumstances and becoming, through one’s actions, a person about whom he or she feels proud. The various philosophers, political activists, authors, and business people, whose works I explored in my Professional Responsibility and Leadership (PRL) course in college, aided me in my discovery of these truths.…

Throughout the duration of my academic career I have heard most of my teachers utter this phrase “Just because you’re struggling doesn’t mean that you are failing”. This phrase can be applied to many situations in our everyday lives, and can especially be applied within the field of business. What this phrase means is that in order to be successful you have to struggle and work hard for it. So it only makes sense that in order to have a successful business you must work hard and never give…
