In the article, “Community Progress: Developments in Community Organization”, Laroy Bowman talks about the movement to make change in the schools and the communities as a whole. Within the movement it is desired to aid the movement toward a wider use of school facilities. Also, to learn about communities and schools and practice solving the problems that are common between the two. They wanted to make the school and communities one, instead of having to separate organizations. The relation of the movement to the schools has undergone several transformations and the change in relation has been expressed through a committee or department varying from time to time within the National Education Association. Within the article was information about how school and communities need to work together. It does not say much about how the school functioned at the time of the article. This information will be useful because in the twenty-first century, we are just starting to get school and communities to work together as much as possible. So, this article shows that in 1926, when it was written, started the slow process to have schools and communities work as one.
