Lara Croft Film Analysis

From the opening scene fight scene, the screen displays Lara Croft calmly hanging upside down from a rope (Lara). She displays a don’t-mess-with-me face, and as the fight scene continues it is easy to see that she has earned it. However, looking at the rest of Lara, one cannot help but think that fighting in such tight clothes cannot be comfortable. For once it seemed like there was finally going to be a strong female lead in an action movie that would be a great role model for girls to look up to. Sadly, the movie industry had to ruin this beautiful dream, by dressing the main character in tight clothing. Fundamentally, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider makes strives to break down the stereotypes of action movies, but ultimately succumbs to the stereotypes of women in film. First, summing up Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, it was directed by Simon West in 2001 (Lara). This movie follows Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie), who is a member of a rich British family and also happens to be a tomb raider. Lara is very skilled when it comes to fighting and using weapons. Taking place during the film is a special alignment of the planets that rarely happens. During this alignment, a secret society, who are called the Illuminati, are trying to find a talisman that would give them the ability to control time. In order to do this though, they need a key that Lara had found hidden in her mansion. In all honesty though, more men probably did watch this than woman, so the marketing was for a male audience. However, if Lara Croft could have been dressed like a normal woman, she could have been a great role model for young girls to look up
