In the middle of the book it has lots of simile. “The strange night appeared to have wrought subtle changes in familiar land, and the well-known road seemed to be leading her into unknown places” (162). 1. Ray Bradeburry wrote Dandelion Wine because it almost seems like it goes through the moments of his life. It explains imagination, almost as if your a 12 year old reading the book and how children think about things differently than adults. Hitomaro’s imagery strongly describes the power yet beauty of the land. He writes “the precious land of Sanuki, Resting where the seaweed glows like gems” (Hitomaro 1-3).…

The use of figurative language helps the theme of the story otherwise there would be no theme. Metaphors were scattered around the story and finding on was not challenging as in the scene Mr. Nuttle sister says “you will bury yourself down and not speak to a living soul…” The imagery in the story were also easy to find as if it were the writer writing a story about them but in the story the imagery was a long piece but a good one, young lady, who is the niece of Mrs, Sappleton, talks to Framton and tells him a story about the men that return later toward the end of the story. The second rhetorical strategy I will be talking about in this paragraph is that of Sentence Structure. Sentence Structure is the plainly, the order of your word in the sentence. The order that you select will have an impact on what is emphasized and what is minimized. Not only does the structure matter, but the length of the sentence can also have an effect on what is emphasized as well. Generally the longer the sentence, the greater the chance to bury a detail that you do not wish to highlight.…

Figurative Language, Symbolism, and Stereotypes in Fairy Tales A fairy tale is defined as “a traditional story, usually written for children, which often involves imaginary creatures and magic” (dictionary.cambridge.org). Fairy tales are usually filled with a range of literary elements, but for this essay I will discuss three different types of literary devices, figurative language, stereotype, and symbolism, and give examples of each from the stories “Little Red-Cap” and “The Juniper Tree” by the Grimm Brothers. The use of figurative language helps readers to picture or imagine parts of the story, and is widely used in fairy tales and other types of literature. Figurative language, defined as a literary device, is “language that uses words…

Wiesel states that the whole week was taken over by the darkness of night due to the horrors he had been witnessing, and the word “night”, specifically in this context, signifies the living hell that Wiesel is living in. This is used in a way to implicitly state to the reader how horrible the circumstances were and how cruel reality was to Wiesel’s mind and body. “Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes.” This sentence has the use of the metaphor in the segments “murdered my God and soul” and “turned my dream to ashes.” The use of the metaphor causes a shift in tone to one which is somber yet in a mix with a sympathetic environment around the reader.…

The figurative languages that I used in this rationale are; imagery, and alliteration and last but not least my word choice. Imagery had a good setting in my rationale, including describing the process of coloring for example; (the neat shiny splattered star effect.) Here I described how the final touches of stars added a special effect on the whole drawing , in addition it will grab the audience's attention in both drawing and language. As well as I used alliteration in this same sentence which is (shiny splattered stars) in my opinion, this type of sentence will affect the audience's hearing by amusing this sense in particular. The major elements in my rationale are my vocabulary, because it built up my formative writing skills as well as…

What I Knew: Before reading the article, I was familiar with figurative language and reading comprehension. I knew that figurative language included similes, metaphors, personifications, alliterations, hyperboles, and idioms. I have chosen Question One: Emile Bronte’s Wuthering Heights discuss how an attention to figurative language can help in an analysis of literary texts as I enjoyed reading the text and the many qualities that made it such an enjoyable read. When we read something we usually take it as it is but that is exactly what figurative language is not. When we read certain expressions or words with a different meaning it is known as figurative language which is different from literal interpretation. Figurative language goes beyond the meanings of the words that we read which give us, the readers a greater insight into the piece. There are many types of figurative language such as symbolism, metaphors and similes which are all seen in Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering…
