Dialogs help with vocabulary and grammar. Dialog helps with clarifying the situation the structured may be used, clarifying the target structure, and delivers cultural information for language use wherever possible. This method is good for intermediate or beginner students and can be taught to a large number of students. This is a condition to make the student have an automatic response. The teacher starts off saying the sentence of the dialog out loud in front of the classroom. When a teacher chooses a sentence it has to have a clear focus on in English pattern the teacher is trying to teach and it has to be repeated multiple of times in the dialogue. For example the teacher shows a picture of a pen and says “This is my pen” than the students say “This is my pen”. The students listen how the teacher pronounces the sentence and list objects and then they repeat the sentence out loud back to the teacher. Once the students have memorized the dialog sentence the teacher plays one role by showing a picture of an object such as a pen, notebook, book, or pencil and the students fill in the blank. To make learning more effective they can monitor, plan and evaluate so their listening skills can improve. When planning the student can set their own goals at a personal level for listening development. They can also take every opportunity they can to practice listening. When a student is monitoring their listening skills they check for effort as well as progress while listening or learning to listen.To help these students they need to know their learning process as well as the demands of their learning tasks. Metacognition has been a successful in teaching students how to listen. This helps the students to have control of what they are learning as well as understanding what they are learning. An example would be when a students do not recognize the words they hear but make a connection to a similar situation where they used a specific strategy to solve a word recognition issue. When they have an experience of coming across and unknown sound they might remember a specific strategy they used to solve the problem and can use it again for new problems.
