Language Arts Personal Narrative
It was my second day of fifth grade. After having a fun filled morning, the lunch bell finally rang, and it was time to go sit down at the lunch tables. This is definitely when most of the drama occurs, which still remains the case in eighth grade. Your friends get mad at you if you sit with someone else, and not them, even if it is just for one day. I looked left to right, debating where to sit. My friend Brooke was telling me to go sit with the popular girls, because we were friends with them. Even though many of the girls were my best friends, I wanted to try something new. Isn’t that what middle school was for? Then I glanced over, and Jenna was waving me over to her table.

These are the people who will be there for me when I need a good laugh. But not friends who will turn behind my back and gossip, even though I know that happens to everyone at some point. I’ve always had many friends, and I don’t know if that’s really a good thing. I’ve always thought it was an asset, but now I have realized to look at it in two different ways. In fifth grade, I realized you shouldn’t try to be someone else you’re not, and instead just be you.
It was the day before Halloween. My friend Taylor asked me to hang out, and I said yes. Since we had a group of 3, we usually didn’t all hang out together.
When I was hanging out with Taylor, she posted a picture of her and I on her Snapchat story. The third girl in the group, Emma, asked me if I could hang out, after viewing the picture. I texted her back saying of course, because I’m not the kind of person who is going to purposely exclude anyone. But then I

Sometimes, I do make decisions, based on if this will have a positive effect on me, and what impact it will have on people? I think, will this look good if I do it, or will this not look so good if I do it? That’s one thing, I don’t really like about myself. Don’t really like is an understatement, more like hate. But now I have realized, not to be the person who I used to be, and just be the person who I want to be. This has changed me in many ways. It has led me to the positive and negative decisions I have made. You’re considered “popular,” in the world of middle school life, if you have a Snapchat or Instagram. Why should social media affect the people you can be around? I’ve come to realize that being popular or having friends, who sometimes don’t care about you, is NOT a good thing.
Dealing with popularity, you deal with a crazy amount of drama. Drama is one of the big things I will always remember about middle school. It got me involved in so many situations that I wish I could have avoided. Drama happens all throughout school, and is definitely one of the big negatives about middle school. This year, I’ve come to realize who my true friends are. These are the people who I trust and associate myself with. But, it’s hard because if your good friend is in another “friend group” and your “friend group” doesn’t like them, what do you

I Ashley Zeledon am highly interested in the position of Treasure of alpha mu gamma, because I would be the perfect fit for the position. That they will get through the war because they have each other. Friends are valuable because they will always be there to support others. And when friends support each other, even by just being in their presence, they have the ability to make their life better and more meaningful just as Paul’s friends do for him. Alternatively, in the article “Why Good Friends Make You Happy,” the author, Phillip Moeller, claims that one must choose their friends wisely because friends are able to dictate how someone feels or the way someone acts. He says that “the gravitational pull of individual friendships can have an enormous cumulative effect on the quality of our lives… given the ability of friends to make you happier or sadder” (Moeller).…

When I get to my AP Language class I look around the classroom that has a homey feel to it. Curtains drape over the cold foggy windows in royal red, rimmed with gold shimmering colors. A lamp is turned on, creating a soft glow in the room while the warm smell of pumpkin pie is enough to make it hell for a sleep deprived person to stay awake. I walk to the back of the classroom, and sit exactly in the middle. Then I put my head down, and wait for class to start.…
