The text provides a great deal of information about Language and Literacy development for this age. I found information on “Toddler Two-Word Utterances.” These include phrase like “All broke, all done, and me bite” (Trawick-Smith, 2014). I also learned about integrating sign languages into your classroom. I loved that this was apart of the book. I often use simple signs like those for colors, animals, basic objects, and letters with the children. This can help children who have difficulty expressing wants and needs with words. I can also help children start to use their words. Some things you could watch for are oral language abilities and literacy skills. This includes the child’s ability to understand words and their use of simple words and phrases. You can also look out for their interest in books, and letter recognition. You can encourage children to turn the pages of books and point out letters of their name as a start.

Sturdy books are accessible to children throughout the day. Teachers often read books and ask questions to the children about them to help them connect with it. The teachers are very interactive with the children and provide a language rich environment. There are also letters and words around the classroom to help with word recognition. Staff asks many questions to help the children extend their learning and memory. They use songs that mention animals. Staff often imitates the sounds these animals make. Open-ended questions are used during art as well. They ask about what they are drawing or writing. This allows the children to describe the picture they are envisioning as they draw it and communicate that to
