Introduction

Over the last few years, the plight of indigenous peoples has received attention throughout the world. It is generally agreed that indigenous people are among the poorest and most vulnerable due to their specific identities and attachment to their histories, environment, cultures and traditional political organizations and languages. The government of South Africa has recognized the existence of the San and Khoe as indigenous peoples and they are geographically found in the Northern and Western Cape regions of South Africa.
In Kenya the indigenous community comprises of hunter gatherers such as the Ogiek and Sengwer and also pastoralists like the Maasai, Turkana, Samburu and Endorois who are located mostly in the Northern parts of Kenya and also the Riftvalley[ Ethnic affiliation for the 2009 census reported by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics at ] This study is that done by The United Nations on indigenous people that sseks to protect this group of people.
