Lancaster County is known for having beautiful farmland and a large Amish population. Many Lancaster County drivers share the road with Amish horse and buggies. This often causes a lot of frustration and chaos on the roads. Drivers usually cross the double yellows to get around the buggies but sometimes drivers are not paying attention or cross at an unsafe time and an accident occurs. When those accidents occur, people may be injured and need to go to the hospital. Within the borders of the farmland, deep in the heart of Lancaster City, sits Lancaster General Hospital, the hospital of choice for many Lancaster County citizens. This hospital is not-for-profit and focuses on acute care but provides care for many different areas of need. The hospital is run by an executive type of leadership. Jan Bergen is the President and CEO of Lancaster General Hospital. Lee Duke serves as Chief Physician Executive and Chief Medical Officer. The hospital also employs multiple senior vice presidents, as well as financial, operating, legal, leadership, and information officers, and a Chief Nurse Executive. Without these people working behind the scenes, the hospital would not be able to run smoothly and effectively.

It is in a network with Women’s and Babies Hospital and Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital. Lancaster General Hospital currently has 630 beds but is in the process of expanding. The expansion is supposed to provide an additional 80 rooms and many rooms are being converted to or built as private rooms for patient comfort and
