The Unknown Mary Maloney is a very smart person and she plans ahead before taking any steps. She looks very innocent but she is very evil from the inside. You never know when Mary Maloney can turn into the opposite of what she is. “Lamb to the Slaughter” is written by Roald Dahl. In this story Mary Maloney was waiting for her husband like any other ordinary day. When the truth of Mary Maloney’s husband relieves, she decides to kill her husband “Patrick”. Mary Maloney is not a sane person because she tries to trick everyone by making up fake stories and because Mary Maloney was making the police officers eat the murder weapon. First of all, Mary Maloney is not a sane person because she tries to change up the whole story and is trying to make someone else responsible. “Quick! Come quick! Patrick’s dead!” (Dahl 5). Mary Maloney calls the police station and acts as if she does not know who kills Patrick. When she calls the police station she tells the officers that Patrick’s dead. Now there is no proof against her and she can’t be arrested without evidence. “Please,” she begged, “Please eat it. Personally I couldn’t tough a thing, certainly not what’s been in the house when he was here. But it’s all right for you. It’d be a favor to me if you’d eat it up. Then you can go on with your work again afterwards.” (Dahl 8). Mary Maloney knows that she hits her husband with the leg of lamb. Therefore, Mary Maloney still makes the two police officers eat the leg of lamb so that the murder weapon will be gone. Mary Maloney clearly tells the two officers to eat the weapon because she does not want to be caught. She is very clever and she is very secretive. She plans as she goes, this evidently states why she is not a sane
