Lamb To The Slaughter Character Analysis

People can change in a split second. Just like Mrs.Maloney, and this is how we can tell she is a dynamic character. In the beginning Mrs. Maloney is head over heels in love with her husband. After her first murder Mrs. Maloney doesn’t choke up, or fall to pieces. Before the end Mrs. Maloney is proud of what she did. With this story “lamb to the slaughter” the author Roald Dahl characterizes Mrs.Maloney as dynamic, revealing to us that people are fragile and can snap at the slightest things. Mrs. Maloney loves her husband. According to her internal monologue Mrs. Maloney “loved the warmth that came out of him”, and we can infer that she loves him (Dahl 1). we can visualize this with the quote “alright, she told herself. i've killed him” right now she isn't bawling her eyes out like any other wife would. instead she is thinking about her punishment. here she knows that what she did was wrong. this can show that she still cares about her husband. Mrs.Maloney is dynamic because she went from loving mr. m to knowing he doesn't deserve to die. “Mary Maloney began to giggle”, this is where she goes completely crazy. by the end of the story readers can see that Mrs.Maloney is certainly dynamic. she is giggling because she successfully killed someone and got away with it. now she is a proud killer. no longer does she love her husband. we can tell by the way she reacted. if she did love him she would not be able to live with herself.
