Lamar: A Short Story

Improved Essays
It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner. “Franklin,” my father hollered up the stairs, “It’s for you. Its Lamar on the other line.” As I came downstairs to pick up the phone, I was not happy. I was tired and had looked forward to a nice quiet evening at home, not another adventure with Lamar. Thirty minutes later, however, Lamar’s silver Mustang convertible swung into our driveway, and Lamar was leaning on the horn before the car came to a full stop. Grabbing my coat from the couch, I walked out my front door with all the enthusiasm of a man going to stand before a firing squad. As Franklin walked out the door, Lamar shouted “Wassup Frank!” as he’s waiting in his car playing the newest Kendrick Lamar single. Franklin …show more content…
Lamar always had a love/hate attitude on Franklin. He hated him because of all of the fame he got, but also loved him because of how humble he was. Franklin never acted like he was all that, he keep his composure and never got caught up in all of that. Franklin never really noticed Lamar because of how many people came up to talk to him everyday asking him where he was attending school next year. That disconnection ended first semester of senior year. Franklin was a smart kid and had all of his credits done by his senior year and picked some classes that didn’t really matter. On the other hand, Lamar was still struggling and had to make up three classes by the end of the year if he wanted his diploma. Lamar needed a gym class to graduate and franklin just wanted to take one to get him in shape for the upcoming season. The first day of school they both went to class and everybody was talking to their friends they haven’t seen all summer or trying to talk to the school superstar, Franklin. About 15 minutes into class, Franklin noticed Lamar wasn’t talking to anybody and went over to say something to …show more content…
They made a plan to go to a carnival and get all of the credit cards they could to come up on some big cash. They got to the spot and they both looked at each other. Lamar said “You ready Frank?”
“Yeah i’m ready…”
The plan started going great, they got all of the cards and left ASAP. They thought they just came up on their biggest heist yet, but what they didn’t know is they had cops following Lamar because of what they did last week. On their way home they were stopped by the police.
“Aye stay calm Lamar, we don’t want them searching the car…”
“I got you Frank…”
The cop walked up to the window and knocked. Franklin let it down and the officer asked for license and registration. Franklin went into his pockets and car compartments and couldn’t find either one. They were asked to step out the car and the officer searched the vehicle.
“Sorry Lamar, I thought I had it all on me…”
“Its cool bro. I should've never even go you into this mess…”
Minutes later, they were both handcuffed and inside the back of the police car. They both were sent to court weeks later and were charged with fraud. They had to spend years in prison and the two never talked to each other
