There is an array of Psychological theories and concepts applied in the love story of Mia and Sebastian. To commence with, proximity plays a vital role in starting Mia and Sebastian’s relationship at the initial stage. After they ran into again, Mia brought Sebastian to her work place, a cafe next to the Hollywood backlot, showing her passion of being an actress rather than a barista. Meanwhile, Sebastian took Mia to a jazz club and described his enthusiasm for jazz and desire to open his own club. He chose to create a settled life for Mia by working as a jazz keyboardist with a higher income. I realized that during dream chasing, facing the reality cannot be neglected. Especially when we are growing up, we have to bear the responsibility for our lives. There is a distinct gap between “what you want to do” and “what you need to do”. Delving into Marslow’s hierarchy of needs, “physiological” and “safety” are the basic needs while “self-actualization” is at a higher level. We are required to fulfill the fundamental life needs before we desire for dream. Yet, the most essential part is not to eliminate your Lala Land in heart. I shed tears and resonated with Mia crooned “The Fools Who Dream”. I am fond of dancing since childhood. Dancing enriches the meaning of my life. But being a full-time dancer in Hong Kong has bleak prospect. People are used to labelling your life as failed if you do not earn much money.
