Kayaking in Lake Tahoe

With just me and my thoughts, I launched my heavy orange kayak from Sand Harbors’ fine powder like sand beach and hopped in. My jet black oars churned through the waters of Lake Tahoe with smooth grace. The roasting sun was alone in the sky with no clouds keeping her company. A sad cloud of smoke hovered over the lake like a bad memory. The gargantuan forest fires burned miles away still fueling the dreary smoke. Still through the dingy grey smoke the bright green Sierra Nevada mountains showed their delightful colors. Suddenly

There's no use wasting time and panicking, instead, I think I'm going to find out what this FAYZ is caused by, Athena Smiths thought, and stepped outside. She could see and walk to the FAYZ boundary from her porch, and with her high intelligence, calculated the FAYZ to be 20 miles in diameter, same as last FAYZ. Then the center and cause of the FAYZ would be Theraman Lake? Theraman Lake must have toxic waste or some other form of nuclear waste.…

The clearing was quiet, it seemed lifeless. The Salinas River still flowed merrily near the hillside, the water was still warm from the afternoon sun, and still reflected a green hue. On one side of the river, the smooth foothill slopes still curved up to the strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, and the other side was still lined with trees. Willow and sycamore branches still swung gently in the wind, and the leaves still created a green light within the space. It was totally calm and peaceful… but something was wrong; the air seemed heavier, and the sun seemed dimmer, no animals stirred, and everything seemed to be aware of a deep sadness.…

A turning point is something that changes either your character (who you are), how you live your life, or both. Downhill skiing has been a turning point for me in my life. To truly understand the joy of skiing, you must feel the connections to everything around you. From your body to the skis, from the skis to the snow and ice, from the icy snow to the ground, you must feel and connect through all of it. That is when you can finally understand the freedom gliding through and on the snow brings.…

I sat there, in the deep snow, drawing my sound map. My eyes were closed, using my every ounce of strength to listen for even the smallest sounds. The whispering trees melodic wind, the creaking ice which covered so much of the winding river that ran through the riparian area on my map. When I was done, I laid down, acknowledging nature 's picturesque sky and landscape. The beautiful baby blue sky enveloped me with it’s gentle appeal while the tops of Aspen trees forced it’s barren branches into it, pushing with force to grow higher, stronger, and to gain power.…

Not Just another Lake House Our family lake house is full of fun and gregarious laughter all summer long. Ever since I have been old enough to remember, I have spent the bulk of my summer weekends on mile marker number 3. This is where my grandparents have owned a lake house since I have been alive. My dad and grandparents have owned homes at the lake since the late 1960s, so it is no shock that I have also acquired a taste for wanting to leave the populace and noisy city and head out highway 70 towards southern Missouri were life is much simpler and quieter.…
