Lake Norman Charter School Motto Analysis

Superior Essays
At Lake Norman Charter School, our motto is to learn, lead, and serve. The main thing I do is to learn. To learn means to gain or acquire knowledge of or skill in something by study, experience, or being taught. Learning relates to the motto because in order to do the other parts of the motto, you must learn. I live up to the learn part of the motto. It was the day before the first day of school at LNC. I was going into sixth grade and I am average height, but a little thin. I like to wear jackets occasionally, but I like to wear shorts. I am a good student overall and my past teachers liked teaching me because I am respectful and almost never rude. I am curious for knowledge, but I liked a small challenge also. My parents like how I learn. …show more content…
The recipe said that I could improvise on some parts if it might taste better. I wasn't sure if it would taste better, but I knew that I needed some sort of sugar for the sauce. It is like an angel whispered into my ear and said, "Use the white sugar. Use the white sugar". I measured it like it was brown sugar and followed the instructions like I had every ingredient I was supposed to have. After it was done cooking, I let it cool and put it on some chicken. It was canned chicken which does not taste good if it is eaten without something else put in it like a sauce or seasoning. I tried the sauce by itself and it tasted pretty good. I thought it was a good idea to put it on the chicken. If anything, the homemade sauce was better than the store-bought barbecue sauce. Unfortunately, I had to use a lot of the sauce, but there were still leftovers. I learned that improvising can help you if you do it right. If you purposely mess up, it will mess up the food. I wonder if it would taste different if I actually had good brown sugar. A skill I showed that I am a learner is that I used creative thinking to use white sugar instead of brown

“The Jacket” Fictional Narrative Assessment Gary Soto’s “The Jacket” tells the story of a jacket that the author received when he was in 6th grade. The jacket his mother lovingly purchased for him was NOT the kind of jacket he had asked for, and in his eyes, brought him three years of bad luck. Rewrite Soto’s personal narrative as if his mother HAD bought him the neat jacket - “like bikers wear: black leather and silver studs with enougt belts to hold down a small town.” Tell your version from the day the author sees the jacket on his bedpost, to the end of day when he first wore the new jacket to school. Seventh grade, my second year now at what I thought to be the worst school in the world. On back to school night I met a man who would change my perspective on life completely, that man being Brandon Lilly. Henry Adams once said “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” At a mere five-foot four he appeared to be a kid minus the burly lumberjack beard that he possessed. I remember being skeptical at first because I had never had a male teacher before.…

Starting first grade I thought we were the top dogs because we got moved down to the bigger playground with the bigger kids. Since they knew we liked kick ball so much they built a kick ball diamond for us. There was just so much to do in the shortest amount of time. Everyday was a new day, I never did the same thing, whether it was playing on the upper part on the monkey bars seeing who could hang the longest or playing football with the guys. I can remember my first year at kickball I was taller than most of the guys because they haven’t hit their growth spurt yet, so everyone wanted me on their team because I was the only girl once again that was better than most of the guys.…
