I awoke on the couch the morning at the lake with a cool breeze coming through the house. The fire place has just about burned out with only a small bed of hot coals remaining from a fire the night before. I watched as they flickered and crackled slowly changing color as they begin to change to ash. Above the fire place is a trophy deer mounted with an old hunting rifle right below it. It was a beautiful head piece which had ten points in total five on each side making it almost a perfect rack. The rifle below the deer head is very old as the wooden stock shows its age as it is beginning to crack. I walked out onto the deck which had been rebuilt since last year. Which was once old dried out wood is now new dark brown floor boards with beautiful white railings. The deck wrapped the entire back side of the house which is full of furniture, a table, and even a hammock. It has the perfect view of the lake which is located right in back of the house with a beautiful freshly cut green yard which meets the water. …show more content…
The sun is just beginning to rise as its beautiful orange rays of light shine across the lake reflecting off the morning mist. Not a cloud in the sky, it was truly a beautiful day. I could hear the slightest ripple coming from the lake as the cool spring air slowly formed a wake. Towards the bank of the lake, there were many bluegill nests with fish as far as the eye could see. The larger fish guarded the beds as the little ones peacefully remained in the nest. Near by, a fallen branch upon it were many turtles in a single line. Their necks all extended from their shell as they, take in the early morning rays. A raft of ducks not far behind making their way around the branch. The mother duck lead the way as she constantly bobbed her head under the water looking for an early morning

I was over ecstatic when Fernando, (also known as Fernie) my best guy friend asked me to go on a walking adventure with him in our hometown of Kelseyville, California. We started off the day by walking in the forest alongside of Kelsey Creek. This forest has a really big meaning to Fernie and I, because we both love nature in every aspect and these walking adventures are not uncommon to us. Starting on the path we both got lost in our own thoughts, I got distracted by looking above me at the the canopy the tree branches created. My eyes followed the patterns the sunlight was creating as it broke through the leaves and cascaded onto the uneven forest floor.…

    E. B. Wight's central message of his essay, "Once More to the Lake" is how over the course of his vacation he was able to realize that while individual experiences at the lake had changed, the overall experience was the same, allowing him to finally connect with his son. Within the essay, E. B. Wight's character has a sudden desire to reinitiate a childhood tradition, what was once an annual trip to a Maine Lake, with his son who has had no such experience before. It is clear that Wight has found memories of the lake, "You remember one thing, and that suddenly reminds you of another thing. I guess I remembered clearest of all the early mornings, when the lake was cool and motionless, remembered how the bedroom smelled of the lumber it was made of and the wet woods whose scent entered through the screen,"(1) and clearly wants his son to have an identical situation, "I took along my son, who had never had any fresh water up his nose and who had seen lily pads only from train windows."…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…

When I was about 3 years old, I can remember my Grandparents lake house in Houston, Texas. My parents and I lived there until my grandparents moved into the country 2 hours outside Houston. Before moving, I can remember my mother taking me out to the lake to feed the ducks and always telling me I can’t swim in the lake because it’s too dirty. I remember going into the kitchen to get juice and spilled it everywhere and was found cleaning my mess while cursing because I thought saying “Shit” and “God Damnit” would magically clean the mess. I would grab a stick of butter and sit 3 inches from the television while watching the Teletubbies.…
