The type of volcano Coatepeque is a caldera. The volcano, Coatepeque, is located El Salvador but to be more specific, it is in the middle of Santa Ana and Sonsonate. In the early 1900s, this volcano was active, steam and heat still came out into the atmosphere. This caldera was formed by overlapping stratovolcanoes east of Santa Ana. But over the years, water was being accumulated which formed into an almost perfect circular geographic structure which is now known as Lake Coatepeque. Although it is a lake it is still considered active and one of the most dangerous location because it is a lake filled caldera that it cause explosivity or lahars. Although it is known to be dangerous, people still live near the lake and have opened a lot of restaurants
