In William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, Laertes is a character foil to Hamlet, is the son of Polonius, and brother of Ophelia.Throughout the play Laertes is not really mentioned because he spends most of his time away in college. He returns back to Denmark when hearing about his father death. Overall I will describe Laertes as a character who acts furiously due to his temper issues.
The significance of Laertes in the play is he causes tension with and Hamlet and at the end of the book is the one who kills Hamlet.In act 3, Laertes gives advice to Ophelia that she shouldn't be with Hamlet and she should protect her virtue.This later causes tension between Hamlet and Ophelia because she ends up telling him she doesn't want him.
