The memories formed at a certain location or time can have large effects on a person. Throughout three short stories; “Volar” by Judith Ortiz Cofer, “The Lady with the Dog” by Anton Chekhov, and “A Pair of Tickets” by Amy Tan, meaning is shown through compelling settings. The setting of each story sets the stage for all events throughout the story. It’s through these very symbolic settings, that the significance of each story is revealed. An example of this can be seen in “Volar.” The little girl is currently living in a small apartment in a run-down neighborhood with her family.
