In the “Lady or the tiger” the author, Frank Stockton, apprehends the imperfections in the human systems of justice. Acts of injustice are portrayed through the king’s dictatorship. The king is described as one who liked “to make the crooked straight, and crush down uneven places” (1). This quote indicates that the king did not have a just rule, he did as he pleased. For example, the king’s system of justice is a matter of chance. His way of disciplining people cannot prove whether the suspect is guilty or innocent because their fates are all determined by the possibility of the lady or the tiger. Along with indicating the flaws of the justice system, the criminal matters are solved in the arena as a source of entertainment. The author writes,
