Lady Macbeth Is Evil

In the play by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is more evil than Lady Macbeth, because Macbeth was the one who committed the murders. When Macbeth hears that he should fear Macduff, he orders for the death of Macduff’s son and wife, and a messenger tries to warn them “I doubt some danger does approach you nearly,” (IV.ii.73) Macbeth demonstrates his evil by killing innocent people as a message to traitors. There was no reason to kill Macduff’s son and wife because neither of them posed as an obstacle for Macbeth’s success. Some may argue that Lady Macbeth is more evil than Macbeth because she convinced him into killing Duncan. When Macbeth was deciding on whether or not to kill him, his wife tells him, “When you durst do it, then you were a man;/

Macbeth is a play that starts with a successful couple and ends in a tragedy. Lady Macbeth, the wife of the ruthless soldier Macbeth, plays a key role in the play. Lady Macbeth is one of the most powerful female characters in literature. Unlike her husband, she lacks humanity as we see well in her opening scene where she calls upon the ‘Spirits that tend on mortal thoughts’. Lady Macbeth persistently taunts her husband for his lack of courage to kill Duncan, even though we know of his bloody deeds on the battlefield.…

Lady Macbeth was an honourable wife, but you could tell that right after she received that letter from Macbeth (stating the witches’ prophecies), her first instinct was to kill Duncan, as she says to Macbeth “O, never/Shall sun that morrow see!” (I, v, 67-70). That one letter that Macbeth sent, would start their journeys onto actually performing the deed. Then, throughout the play, Lady Macbeth suffered from night terrors and committed suicide because she couldn’t bear the weight of taking so many lives. Macduff’s family consisting of an innocent child and wife, was brutally murdered by Macbeth…

Jesus, however, doesn’t fall for the devil’s tricks, unlike Macbeth. The witches simply told Macbeth that he was going to become King, Thane of Cawdor, and Thane of Glamis, which he already was. This made Macbeth think that if it was going to happen anyway, why not just hurry fate along a little bit, just like the witches and presumably the devil wanted. The weird sisters conveniently left out that part saying that if Macbeth becomes King, then the whole country will perish, and Macbeth will eventually die. Since the supernatural was not an uncommon thing talked about when this play was taking place, Macbeth believed that these sisters were psychics or just future telling witches, along with Banquo.…

Another reason to believe Lady Macbeth is more evil than Macbeth is the fact she is degrading Macbeth’s manhood. Whenever Lady Macbeth wants to push Macbeth outside his comfort zone she treats him with no respect and puts his manhood on blast. “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man.” (Lady Macbeth 1.7.49-51). This quote occurs before the killing of King Duncan and as Macbeth questions the idea of regicide, it proves how manipulative and controlling Lady Macbeth is.…

An individual is in charge of all the actions they have completed, and all the choices they have. No one can truly make someone do anything, as they ultimately are the one that does it. Macbeth is no exception. Lady Macbeth played her part in the murder of King Duncan by coercing and cajoling Macbeth into seeking fame and glory. However, Macbeth was the person that actually murdered the guy.…

To specify, Macbeth realizes that all men are born of a woman and will never be defeated, highlighting his excessive self-esteem. However, the three witches informed Macbeth to “beware Macduff!” (4.1.78), foreshadowing Macbeth’s ultimate demise. Nonetheless, Macbeth is influenced by the supernatural and slaughters Macduff’s “wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls” (4.1.167). More importantly, Macbeth’s greed, selfishness and desire to retain the throne blinds all of his moral aspects to the point that Lady Macbeth’s death is no longer his fundamental interest.…

In the beginning of the play Macbeth, it can be seen that the driving force behind the plotted murder of King Duncan was, in fact, Lady Macbeth. However, as the play progresses, Lady Macbeth's mental state deteriorates and she is no longer the driving force in the relationship. This is shown clearly in one of her last soliloquies (5.1.37-42) where she is sleepwalking through Dunsinane and plagued with memories of the night Duncan was murdered. This soliloquy reveals her guilt towards the murder and her emotionally weak state in contrast to the start of the play. First and foremost, Lady Macbeth was the one, who not only planned the entirety of the plot to murder Duncan, but she also belittled Macbeth for his lack of manliness, however, her…

In scene 5 of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth alludes to the established motif that “fair is foul and foul is fair.” (1.1.12) when she says, “Look like th' innocent flower, but be the serpent under ’t.”(1.5.56-57) and, “to alter favor ever is to fear.” (1.5.64). With both of these sentences Lady Macbeth is telling her husband to conceal his foul intentions with the look of innocents. Shakespeare chose to have her repeat this motif to connect her to the witches, which consequently, ties her to evil and darkness.…

Both characters demonstrate their villainesses’ personality and actions throughout their respective storyline, and although we can arguably say both Villainesses impacted the story for the worst with their pride and their overzealous attitude towards their enemy, it is the difference in their Ambition, manipulation and remorse, which ultimately lead to their down fall. Firstly, with Lady Macbeth, she demonstrates her brains rather than her physically well-being in Duncan’s murder, because of how easy it was to manipulate her husband in believing he should make…

In Shakespeare's Macbeth, the character Lady Macbeth does not conform to the gender expectations of her time. Her nonconformity is shown through the actions she takes—rebelling against the common notion of feminity by inciting violence—to ensure her husband's, Macbeth's, place as king. The character Lady Macduff serves as a foil to Lady Macbeth and displays how women are expected to behave. Because it seems that Lady Macduff is put forth as an example of the ideal woman, it is expected that she would meet a fate different than Lady Macbeth's, however, both women die by the end of the play. Even though both women die, Lady Macduff's life is sacrificed for the greater good, (halting Macbeth's ruination of the kingdom) and therefore, more honorable than Lady Macbeth's.…
