Lady Macbeth feigns fainting after “the deed is done”. The ‘deed’ being the murder of Duncan’s two guards by Macbeth. Firstly, Lady Macbeth demonstrates many times her need to be in control of a situation. She manipulates Macbeth into doing what he was originally hesitant to do- kill Duncan. She controls him in many other instances by telling him that “when [he] durst do it, then [he was] a man.”(I. vii. 49) This comment brings into question whether Macbeth is a man and manipulates him into doing “the deed”. By feigning a fainting spell, Lady Macbeth is able to control where the Lord in the room are directing their attention away from the fact the Macbeth just murdered two people.
