She was one of the key leaders of evil in the play. Many would say the Weird Sisters motivates Macbeth to do all he did, but could it not be argued that Lady Macbeth was the controller of his actions? Her evil spirit before and after the becoming of demons was what influenced the rest of the play. Almost all of the evil and wrongdoing from the play can be traced back to Lady Macbeth. The play would have been almost completely without wrongdoing, if she had not been a character. Without her, Macbeth would have most likely talked himself out of killing the king and never gone down the destructive path he chose to take. In the scene, Macbeth expressed his guilt to her, while also confessing he no longer wanted to kill the king. Lady Macbeth, in place of reacting in an understanding manner, she instead yelled at Macbeth, telling him he would be unworthy of her along with his masculinity if he were to back out (Act I, Scene VII). Once she convinced him to go forward with the murder, she then yelled at him once more for not properly staging it. After Macbeth killed the king, he left with the knife still in his hand. Lady Macbeth scolded him for his stupidity and told him she would simply take care of it herself because he was too incompetent to do so (Act II, Scene II). Everyone of her actions lead to disaster in the end. Without Lady Macbeth’s character there consequently never would have been a crime. Macbeth never would have been talked into committing the crime because he never would have felt like he needed to prove his masculinity to a woman. Women hold a power over men, most likely related to what they can provide for men, but nonetheless it provides them with a power.
