Lady Macbeth Act 1 Lines 73-78 Meaning

The Act is 1 scene 5; lines 73-78. Lady Macbeth is speaking to Macbeth about how he should act when the King arrives. Lady Macbeth states that it will be easy for people to know that something wrong might happen by the Macbeth’s expression. She starts to give advice to Macbeth on how to appear more welcoming by greeting the King with open arms. Also, Lady Macbeth states that Macbeth must act like an innocent flower who shows great virtue, however, underneath all the kindness, he must be manipulative and deceiving. All together, Lady Macbeth is trying to rub off her evilness to Macbeth so that he can actually go through with their plan without feeling remorseful.

b) The importance of Act 1 Scene 5; lines 73-78 is that it shows Lady Macbeth’s evil drive for Macbeth to become King and thus tries to push Macbeth into committing the crime.

She knows that Macbeth was too kind to even think about being unloyal to the King and by summoning her cruel side, she was able to get Macbeth on board with the plan. It states in Act 1 scene 5 ; lines 29-33, “ That I may pour my spirits in thine ear and chastise with the valor of my tongue all that impedes thee from the golden round, which fate and metaphysical aid doth seem to have thee crowned withal”. When Lady Macbeth had finished analyzing what Macbeth meant in the letter, she figured that he was going to rethink about going through with the deed and that is why Lady Macbeth gave Macbeth a very encouraging advice that actually led him to kill Duncan. An event that occurred after Macbeth received the encouragement speech from his wife is when Duncan and his people arrived at Inverness. Lady Macbeth treats Duncan with the utmost respect and graciously attends to all of Duncan’s needs. In Act 1, scene 7, Macbeth is found doing exactly what Lady Macbeth had worried about which was making excuses as to why he couldn’t kill Duncan.
