Since she took the music Industry by the storm ten years ago, Lady Gaga is one of the most influential people to this day. As a pop icon, lady Gaga used her platform to tackle several controversial issues. Although, her recent publicized involvements include partnering with ex-Vice President Joe Biden for a tour to stop sexual assault on campus, a perfect super bowl halftime performance with “a hidden political message”, a collaboration with Prince William to talk about mental health issues, and an appearance in RuPaul’s drag race to support the LGBTQ community, Lady Gaga has continued to impact society with her music, talent, and activism. She performs several identities including masculine and feminine to empower different marginalized groups of people such as the LGBTQ, the disabled, and women. Many scholars talk about the significance of her message through the characters she creates. Indiana University professor Dinah Holtzman writes about Gaga’s outstanding performance with artist Francesco Vezolli in which she portrays cross-gender identification and promotes self-empowerment and acceptance to her audience. In fact, Lady Gaga's alter ego, Joe Calderone, promotes the queer community's gender identity as a more fluid than a binary system and stands against the prejudice that gender-nonconforming people face.
