On campus, there are several locations in which students can frequent to stay fit, including basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, a track, and fully-equipped gyms. GCU makes working out a regular and fun thing to do. On the other side of the spectrum, staying healthy requires a healthy diet and currently more and more colleges are accruing more food options rather than improving the quality (Archibald & Feldman, 2011). This particular college has implemented this idea and has various on-site fast food chains and mini-marts scattered around campus. While there are salads offered at most of the fast food chains, it is not by any means healthy to consume fast food and this ruins the ideal of living healthy while on campus.…
For my first reason I will be talking about behavior. Food is important for kids, teenagers, and adults. If kids at the school don’t get food we could get moodiness, hyperactivity, depression and not pay attention during class. Here at Rocky Mountain Middle School we have won plenty of A+ awards and the Rocky Mountain Middle School students can change all of that because of many things including eating. When kids don’t eat the tend not to do well in school because they can’t concentrate.…
Have there been a time where you had disgusting school lunch? Like for example one day I ate pizza and it was greasy ,and it was antarctica cold, not well cooked and smells nasty, and was disgusting as prison food. Now I refuse to eat any other school meal I will be starving until school ends to go home and eat. Just 9 percent of students served nutritious lunches did the same”. School lunch often gives you food, milk, and a side.…
All these poor choices student have do not really help them maintain their health. Research from the CDCP (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), NCHS (National Center for Health Statistics), and NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey), have shown that between 1988–1994 and 2005–2008 the popularity of obesity increased in adults at all levels of income and education. Non-profit organizations, CDCP, NCHS, NHANES, and more came up with some strategies that would help children and teenagers and adults to get healthier. One was to increase the P.E classes for longer minutes, second one is to improve on school lunches,…
A common debate in schools is what options should be provided for lunch. The school administrations and parents often want their students to be served healthy lunches, but students typically prefer unhealthy alternatives that taste much better. Although unhealthy school lunches appeal more than healthy lunches, I think it is a better idea for nutritious meals to be served during the school day. High schoolers are usually able to make their own conscious decisions about what food they eat, so they can be trusted to pick at least a relatively healthy meal most of the time. However, the lunches a school serves becomes much more important when its students are younger.…
Whether they are competing on the field or in the classroom, students work hard. However it is hard for them to do their best on an empty stomach. An Indian Land student’s tray at lunch typically features one fruit, one vegetable, a large portion of French fries, and a reasonable amount of the main food item of the day. Students find themselves starving as soon as they get home from school because they are not getting enough nutrients at lunch to keep them going. Students are able to grab more food but must pay extra for this.…
College students pay numerous fees to attend and receive a degree from their university. Due to these incurred costs it is understandable that money can be tight for some students because of the multiple fees and charges they pay. One of the costs that has been controversial for college students is the cost of food offered on campus. Some students could argue that the cost of food is too high, and that the quality of the food does not match the costs of the food. Evidence from Nate Nkumbu’s article “Campus food costs around the state” shows that students are paying too much for food and are not receiving the quality that they are paying for eating on campus.…
School offers memories to be made, both good and bad, but the worst of them all is the lunch that is served. During the Obama administration, healthy alternatives to “junk” food were implemented into schools. Since then, “unhealthy” foods and large food portions have been eliminated. Some see this as a pro rather than a con, but athletes say otherwise. Healthy food choices and small portion sizes that American schools offer are unfair to athletes because they require more calories than the average person.…
While this is important, the learning needs to start at school. Students spend a large majority of their day in school, with that, having healthy meals during this time is imperative to the children’s learning process. In addition, not every family is capable to provide their children with a bagged lunch every day. Therefore, the student could be getting their main source of food through the free and reduced lunches. Even with a healthy home, young kids need a guiding hand at school to help them to continue to make healthy choices during the school day.…
The stressful hours of sitting in a classroom takes a toll on me. My boredom leads to unavoidable hunger; it creeps up behind me and attacks when I'm vulnerable. I try to sneak in some healthy snacks, but none satisfy me. It isn't until lunch when I realize that my control is unstable and untrustworthy. Once I breath in the warm salty aroma of fries, I crack.…
Instead of schools serving unhealthy lunches to students, we should feed the students with healthier foods that way they can stay away from certain health problems and have a better start towards their nutrition and academic performance. Preview: F. I would now like to talk about three details of unhealthy school lunches. Why there is so much unhealthy food in school lunches, why we should care about school lunches, and the solution to the problem. II. The Need step A. First Main Point…
From birth to adulthood kids are taught to live a sedentary lifestyle. During the day, these students are forced to sit for hours on end during school hours. These kids then go to lunch to eat an unhealthy, greasy, cholesterol filled meal. This lifestyle teaches children how to act as adults, wake up, go to work, sit for hours, eat junk food, then lather, rinse and repeat. Along with a basic exercise plan, all school students need to eat healthy foods to retain nutrients, and boost their metabolism until they need to use it again (“Unhealthy School Lunches Not Making The Grade”).…
Should Students Have The Right To Chose What They Eat For Lunch? The choice of lunch for students should not be one that is made by someone else, students should have the right to chose what they eat for lunch. A healthy lunch for a growing student is a principal component for the development and growth of a child. There are many components of growth that cannot be changed, but weight and health from choice of food can always be revised. Parents often want the best health for their kids, and sometimes physical activity is not as easy to facilitate, which is why eating healthy is exceedingly important.…
In a nation leading in obesity, healthy eating is more important than ever, but some individuals may not know where to start with all the ads for new dieting tricks and the variety of foods to choose from. Today I will be discussing what causes poor eating, what makes eating healthier unappealing and what ways can one make healthy eating a part of their everyday life. What causes poor eating? Three main factors that contribute to poor eating are stress, bad habits that are instilled from a young age and mindless eating.…
