Its not who we are underneath, but it's are actions that define us. Integrity which is in relation to having moral principles and being honest is something highly valued in this period of time. During this time period America is just beginning, its potential is endless and just waiting for someone one or something to begin to shape it into what it is today and integrity had a major role in the shaping and molding of America and its own identity. Integrity and who we are and how we choose to act, defines the type of person we are and how others perceive us. In the crucible and in the Declaration Of Independence, integrity is what guided the people to make decisions either the lack of integrity or having integrity, their actions and decisions

During this time John Proctor is faced with being acused of witchcraft and the crimes that follow being in relation with witchcraft. Those who are acused of witchcraft are taken to jail and put on trial. And during this trial they have 2 very simple yet very crucial decission, they can admit to partaking in witchcraft and name acomplices and get away with only spending time in jail, or they can deny having asociation with witchcraft and be put to death by being hanged. Now this is a very difficult decission because during this time John Proctor knows for a fact that there is no witchcraft going on in salem because Abigail, the girl who is responisble for starting all of this has admitted to telling this lie of witchcraft. So this puts John Proctor in a very difficult and crucial decission, should he admit to saying that he was asociated with witchcraft and have his life spared, or should he keep true to himself and keep his integrity and choose to stick to the truth and then be put to death. John Procotor above all else values his name and his integrity to be the most imortant thing to him and with great courage and with true integrity decided to stick to the truth even though he knows that he will be put to death for his actions. In this example John proctor shows the perfect example of having integrity by staying true to himself even when the conseqeunces means being put to death. Which goes to show that integrity meant everything to these people it was valued above all other aspects of their lives and
