Lack Of Touching Reflection Paper

Throughout the conversation my partner was getting annoyed of me when I did not want to lay or sit next to him. He kept asking me to lay in his arms and I kept refusing while moving farther away. The conversations went on and off as he kept wondering why I would not get closer to him. I had a feeling that he may have thought I was going to end our relationship because of how distant I was from him which made it seem like something was going to happen. The conversation about our future felt like there was not going to be a future together because of the lack of touch and intimacy. Avoiding touch at all costs almost resulted the discussion to turn out into an argument. Aside from the conversations we had, the fact that I did not want to be close to him agitated him. When my partner and I were having a serious conversation, there was a need for closeness. I realized that throughout the touch test my partner noticed how different I was acting by being distant and avoiding his touch. The lack of love-intimate touch for a couple of hours set off a certain type of emotion where he was not feeling loved. Non normative haptic behaviors constructed a status of disinterest in terms of my partner feeling that I was going to end the relationship. Intimate touch interprets important interpersonal messages and without it can validate whether or not our verbal words are true and clear. Not only does love-intimacy touch satisfy touch needs for you and your partner, but also satisfies touch needs for yourself. Love-intimacy touch such as hugging communicates comfort or feeling loved and cared for. This research validates how important haptic behaviors are to human culture and how being able to be touched or to touch someone is a critical act of nonverbal
