Lack of Diversity in the Teacher Workforce

Abstract As a nation, America is considered to be a “melting pot” of different cultures, and backgrounds. Today, especially, it is important to value the different perspectives that come with people of different backgrounds and recognize their efforts and contributions to society, such as education. Within recent years, there has been a lack of diversity in the teacher workforce despite there being a high demand for them due to the growing diversity among students.

Introduction
Throughout the past couple of decades, lack of diversity among the teacher workforce has been a major issue in the field of education. Diversity refers to the state of having a variety of people who are different, whether it be race, gender, culture, etc. In present day, diversity can refer to anything that diverts from the norm. This also includes social status, religion, sexual orientation etc. Lack of diversity in schools is an important issue because the diversity in a school should reflect how culturally diverse the entire nation is gradually becoming. It is important that the diversity of the nation is reflected in the staff, and administration because this is an issue that affects each of them.
