Lack Of Canada Multiculturalism As A Multicultural Society Essay
While most Canadians take pride in their county as being a “cultural mosaic”, it continues to mean different things to different people. To some Multiculturalism is the recognition that while Canadians share equal rights and responsibilities. People come with diverse cultural backgrounds where each is entitled to practice their faith and traditions freely and take pride in their heritage. But, there are constant barriers that stops Canada from becoming a multicultural society.
Thesis Statement: lack of Canada multiculturalism is a result of racism, immigration and, lack of individualism.
A. Topic Sentence
Racism is one of the major issues that is stressed upon when it comes to multiculturalism in Canada. The idea of racism in Canadian society may seem impossible, but various studies have proven there are subtle forms of racism social interactions and institutions.
Point 1: The Canadian Charter of rights and freedom guarantees the rights and freedom of people in the society. “Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.”
Evidence 1: “Black males living in Toronto are three times more likely to be stopped and asked for identification by police.”
