In the contemporary business world, labor unions, HR managers, and government laws and regulations play enormous role in safeguarding the workers’ right and safety. Most of the workers in different industry across America are unionized to ensure that they bargain collectively for their rights in the workplace. Often, unions work together with HR departments to ensure implementation of various agreements relating to work right. This essay examines the role played by HR, unions, and government laws in safeguarding workers’ rights and safety.

They are independent of employers and human resource, but they develop working relationships with employers and HR department. Their main role is to consult and negotiate with employers on behalf of its members on various issues ranging from working conditions, pay increase, promotions, and other things to ensure fairness. Often, unions undertake collective bargaining on behalf of workers with view of resolving various labor issues. The bill expanded U visas giving undocumented workers, temporary legal status to file a legitimate complaint against their employers for grave workplace abuses such as breach of whistleblower protections and exploitation. In addition, the bill allows them to get temporary work authorization when the issue of wage theft is investigated. Most parts of this bill resemble ‘Protect our Workers from Exploitation and Retaliation Act” (Sethi, 2015). In 2014, the California state government enacted a similar law meant to protect undocumented workers from exploitation by employers. Clauses of this maintain that an employer would be fined $10,000 for retaliating against undocumented workers. The law also forbids employers reporting undocumented worker to immigration authorities as a way of retaliating for the complaint launched against an employer (Sethi, 2015). In this way, I believe in this era American workers are more protected than was the case before implementation of various laws that requires employers to observe in the workplace.
